At The Inner 180, we believe supporting a young athlete means supporting the whole child — emotionally, mentally, and physically.

I’m Tori Moten, founder of The Inner 180 and a native of Rockville, Maryland. I’m a Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Hoops Coach, Basketball Trainer, and Certified Youth Life Coach (Symbiosis Coaching, ICF-Accredited), with 26 years of experience working with youth and student-athletes in and around sport. I am not a therapist; my work focuses on skill-building, awareness, and practical tools that help student-athletes navigate challenges both on and off the court.

My journey began as a student-athlete. I played Division I basketball at UMBC, where I experienced firsthand the pressures, expectations, and emotional demands that come with competitive sports. While that chapter was challenging, it ultimately became the catalyst for my purpose: helping student-athletes learn how to pause, reset, and respond with intention — not just react — in high-pressure moments.

My coaching is also shaped by lived experience. I have ADHD and have spent much of my life learning how to navigate focus, emotional regulation, feeling anxious, and self-confidence — many of the same challenges student-athletes face today. These experiences allow me to coach with patience, understanding, and relatability, meeting kids where they are rather than where we think they “should” be.

I’m also a parent. My daughter has ADHD and grows up with multiple labels attached to her. As an All-Star cheerleader performing in high-pressure environments, she had to learn how to manage fear, self-control, and big emotions. Walking alongside her deepened my understanding of what family's experience — the uncertainty, the concern, and the desire to help your child grow without losing their joy or sense of self.

During the pandemic, I intentionally became a Certified Youth Life Coach to ensure I was fully equipped to support student-athletes during emotionally demanding times. That commitment continues today through The Inner 180, where the focus is not on fixing kids, but on strengthening what’s already inside them.

The Inner 180 represents the internal shift that happens before outward change. When student-athletes learn to slow down, gain awareness, and choose better responses, confidence follows, communication improves, and growth becomes sustainable — in sports and in life.

What Is an SEL Hoops Coach?

SEL stands for Social Emotional Learning.
As an SEL Hoops Coach, I use basketball as a tool to help athletes learn:

  • Emotional awareness

  • Self-regulation and calming strategies

  • Confidence after mistakes

  • Focus and decision-making

  • Healthy responses to pressure

This is not therapy. I am not a licensed therapist, and I do not diagnose or treat mental health conditions. Instead, I coach practical life skills through movement, conversation, and the game of basketball — skills that support emotional growth both on and off the court.

At The Inner 180, your child is not defined by labels, behavior, or struggles. They are supported as a whole person. My goal is to help them learn how to pause, reset, and respond with confidence, awareness, and self-trust.

If you’re looking for a coach who understands your child’s experience and leads with intention, empathy, and real-world tools, you’re in the right place.
